Wanda Kay Snyder, a spirited dreamer with the heart of a lion and the wit to match, gracefully exited this world on May 15, 2025, at the age of 71. She was born on September 10, 1953, in Cleveland County, NC, and fittingly, her journey ended where it began, surrounded by the love of her family.
Wanda was a true original—a rare gem who lived life with an adventurous spirit. Passionate about travel, she had a knack for making any trip unforgettable, often accessorizing her adventures with a seafood feast and a margarita (or two). And when it came to shopping, she could spot a bargain faster than you could say "sale."
Her love for animals was as boundless as her zest for life, with a particular fondness for her childhood collie ,Robin Kay, a loyal companion who undoubtedly shared her free spirit. Wanda's life revolved around her dad, Thomas Lee Howell, whom she cherished deeply.
Though she is now reunited with her parents, Thomas and Frances, and her son, Scott Gilmore, Wanda leaves behind a lively legacy. Sisters Ann Dellinger and Terri Head will surely continue to swap tales of Wanda’s legendary exploits.
While Wanda didn't have grandchildren in the traditional sense, her nieces and nephews were showered with her affection, each one held dear like a grandchild. So she leaves them behind listed as such, grandchildren Wendy Queen, Dana Yelton, and Lori Carroll; great-grandchildren Kristen Beaver, Michael Queen, Misty Sigmon, Collen Queen, Jacob Head, Paola Gonzalez, Makenzie Smith, Vada Carroll, and Brynley Yelton; and great-great-grandchildren Tanner Hoyle, Carson Whitworth, Leahvi Beaver, Tennessee Beaver, Nolan Sigmon, and Riverleigh Stiles.
Her special friend Judy Short, along with countless others, will fondly remember Wanda as the honest eye of any storm—always bringing calm, clarity, and a kind heart that touched everyone she met.
Details for Wanda's services will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, raise a glass of margarita in her honor, celebrate her vibrant life—just how she would have wanted it.
