Shelby: Vonnie Faye Lemmons Bridges, a resident of Cleveland County, was born on November 23, 1932, and completed her earthly journey on July 14, 2025, at the age of 92. Her life, marked by dedication to family, faith, and creativity, was a testament to love and quiet strength.
Born and raised in Cleveland County, Faye lived her entire life surrounded by the landscapes and people she loved. She was an artist of notable talent, finding expression through painting and crafting, yet she chose to prioritize her beloved family over the pursuit of her own artistic passions. Those who knew her were touched by her undiscovered artistry and the warmth she brought into every endeavor.
Faye had a deep appreciation for the beauty of Oriental antiques and a lifelong love of flowers, which she often reflected in her art. Her works, though largely kept within the family, spoke volumes of her gentle spirit and creative vision.
A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby, Her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the values she held dear were evident in her compassionate nature and generous spirit.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Fitchue Lemmons & Ruby Young, her beloved husband, Donald Edwin Bridges, three sisters, and one brother. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by her son, Donald Chris Bridges and his wife Janet of Morehead City, and her daughter, Mitzi Carol Brown of Cherryville. Her grandchildren, Michael Shannon "Shan" Black and Ashley Black Huss, will fondly remember their grandmother, as will her great-grandchildren Eli, Justin, Josh, Austin, and Jade. Her great-great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Ava, continue the family line she nurtured with unwavering affection.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Faye's life and honor her memory during the visitation hours to be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Faye will be laid to rest beside her husband in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Vonnie Faye Lemmons Bridges will forever be remembered for the light she brought into the world, the beauty she found in simple joys, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
