SHELBY- Mr. Roy Lee Bridges, 88, of 1805 Kings Rd., died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John Lee and Mamie Harris Bridges. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Trustee for many years. He was previously employed with Coca Cola, was a former store manager for Harris Teeter and retired from Kendall Drug. Mr Bridges served in the U.S. Airforce.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Murriel McMurry Bridges; his son, Jerry Bridges; his brother, Clyde Bridges; and four sisters, Maggie Putnam, Lucille Gibson, Ida Mae Moss, and Kathryn Lincoln.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Goforth and husband, Willie of Shelby and Nancy Horton and husband, Ray of Valdese; sister-in-law, Gladys Bridges of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Alice Bridges of Mechanicsville,VA; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Greg Goforth and Julie of Macon, GA, Jonathan Horton of Valdese, Heather Topich and Joey of Mechanicsville, Jennifer Middleton and Rusty of Glen Allen VA, David Horton and Jennifer of Cary, Kristen White and Nathan of Fredericksburg, VA and Michael Horton of Valdese; and seven great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2007 (tonight) at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be 11:00 am Monday, June 11, 2007 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park
