Robert Wayne Hamrick

SHELBY- Robert Wayne Hamrick, 78, passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2026.

Wayne was born on August 21st, 1947, to the late Thomas Elbert Hamrick and Martha Jane Hamrick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Lee Hamrick, Bobby Dean Hamrick, and Billy Ray Hamrick, and Sisters, Mary Etta Trammell, and Barbara Ann Camp.

Wayne retired from West Bros. Trucking. Although he worked a few different jobs, his favorite was ICR in Blacksburg SC, a job he always loved and spoke fondly of until his last days. He always spoke about it being the hardest working job he ever had and loved it the most, missing the comradery and friendships the most after it closed.

Although he had many things he will be remembered for, he will mostly be remembered for aggravating the grandkids and great-grandkids, getting them riled up and giving off that unmistakable laugh. He will also be remembered for his love of sitting around a card table with family and friends. He made many lasting friendships and memories through a deck of cards. He was a man that you couldn’t not like and made friends everywhere he went.

Wayne was an avid Atlanta Braves, Indianapolis Colts, and NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his daughter Sissy Black (Scott), a son Robert Hamrick (Donna) , a Sister Becky Karchesky, Grandchildren, Mason, Brandy, Randy, Andy, Austin, Trey, and Matt, and 9 great grandchildren.

His extended family, Partner Kathy Bradley, sons Buddy Hawkins, Robbie Hawkins, and Wesley Fowler, 13 grandkids and 10 great grandkids.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00PM Friday, May 22, 2026 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wayne will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
