SHELBY - With profound sadness and enduring love, we announce the passing of Robert "Dirtman" Davis, who departed this world on December 7, 2025, at the age of 84 in Shelby, North Carolina. Born on May 2, 1941, Robert lived a life full of passion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and the things he loved most.

"Dirtman," as he was affectionately known, worked for twenty-four years at the Milliken, where he was respected for his hard work and integrity. A self-made man with an entrepreneurial spirit, he followed his heart after retiring, opening his own garage to indulge his lifelong passion for cars. This venture wasn't just a job; it was a calling that allowed him to immerse himself in the world of engines and speed—a place where he truly thrived.

Robert's enthusiasm for racing was unparalleled. Whether it was dirt track, drag racing, or any other kind, his eyes would light up with the thrill and excitement of the sport. He never met a stranger, forging friendships wherever he went with his quick wit and genuine interest in people. Sharp as a tack, Robert had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and appreciated.

Family was the cornerstone of Robert’s life. He cherished every moment spent with his large, loving family, creating memories that will be treasured forever. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Davis; son, Sammy Davis and daughter-in-law Virginia Ann Davis (Jenny); sisters, Sarah Knight and Catherine Walker; brother, Dean Davis; grandchildren, and Robert Payne Davis; Albert Lee (Bill) Wyatt, Jr. and great-grandchildren, Arriona, Ava, Emma, Kaley, and Haley. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy in their hearts.

Preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Dean Davis and Cora Lee Davis, and his son, Larry Franklin (Frankie) Davis, Robert leaves behind an indelible mark on all who knew him. His life was an inspiration, and his memory will continue to guide those he loved.

May he forever race through the skies as he did on the track, with a heart full of joy and a spirit free as the wind.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes there will be no services at this time.
