Ed Sessom

May 14, 1925 — December 22, 2006

SHELBY- Rev. Edward Hugh Sessom, 81, of 1918 Flint Hill Church Rd., went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 at the home of his son, Dennis.

PERSONAL HISTORY: He was a native of Scotland County, NC and son to the late Dewey and Eva Newcome Sessom. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a prominent Baptist minister serving churches in Cleveland County for over 30 years, including Flint Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, numerous interim appointments, and Parkview Baptist Church in Morehead City, NC.
He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, founding member of the Christian Service Organization at Gardner-Webb University, and was a former Chairman of the Board of Hospice of Cleveland County, volunteering and ministering to families for many years.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mafrey Eleanor Richardson Sessom; son, David Michael Sessom and two sisters, Nina Davis, Leora Richardson.

SURVIVED BY: his son, Dennis Sessom and his wife Ann of Shelby; a sister, Marie Six of Bruceville Texas; a granddaughter, Susan M. Jones and her husband Paul of Winston-Salem; and one great-grandson, Parker Jones.

VISITATION: Today (Saturday, Dec. 23) from 10am-Noon at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

FUNERAL: at 2:00pm at Flint Hill Baptist Church.

BURIAL: Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
