SHELBY- With deep sorrow, the family of Ray "Jerry" Tessneer announces his peaceful passing on April 17, 2026, at the age of 81. He entered into his eternal home with a life full of love, service, and dedication behind him.

Born on June 27, 1944, Jerry was a man whose life was defined by his devotion to family, an enduring faith, and a passion for cars. Jerry spent many years as a dedicated employee at the Celanese plant until his well-deserved retirement. His commitment to excellence and hard work served as an inspiration to those around him.

Jerry's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He had an unparalleled enthusiasm for NASCAR and took immense pride in detailing vehicles until they gleamed. His love for Ford trucks and Mustangs spoke to his admiration for craftsmanship and speed. His yard was always immaculate, reflecting his meticulous nature and love for the outdoors.

Faith played a central role in Jerry's life. Before his health declined, he was an active member of Christ the King Church, where he served on the healing ministry teams. He found great joy in helping others, whether it was through weekly visitations or by hosting his renowned annual BBQ. This event brought together church members, family, and friends, with entertainment provided by his daughter, friends, and fellow church members. Jerry's giving spirit was evident in his steadfast support for his local church, and he took pride in being a top contributor each year.

In his later years, as his health began to decline, Jerry followed his daughter to Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby, remaining a beloved member until his passing. The light of his life came with the adoption of his granddaughter, Victoria. She was his greatest gift, second only to his salvation. His eyes would light up at the mention of her, and he never missed an opportunity to share stories of her accomplishments with anyone who visited his room.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roberta Tessneer Randle and Ray Paul Tessneer; his stepfather, Walter Franklin Randle; his brother Richard Gene Tessneer; his sister-in-law Faye Tessneer; and his special brother-in-law, B.D. Morrow.

Jerry's memory will be cherished by those he loved dearly: his only child, Sherry Vess, and her husband, Kevin; his adored granddaughter, Victoria Vess; his special friend, Brenda Whitworth; his sister, Jane Morrow; his brother, Gary Tessneer and wife Patricia; his nieces, Genia Tessneer Doster and Tonya Tessneer; his nephew, James Ray Tessneer; and his great-nieces and nephews, Makenna Tessneer, Abigail Tessneer, Braxton Tessneer, and Tanner Tessneer.

A funeral service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Tim Sims. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private to the family.

Jerry's legacy is one of love, kindness, and generosity—a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished. May his memory continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
