Mrs. Mary Helen (Polly) Rollins Wylie, died Friday, September 22nd at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC, following a stroke at the age of 76. A native of Rutherford County and a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church, she was an executive secretary at Gardner-Webb University for 17 years. A 30-year resident of Shelby, Polly was an active member of Churchill Drive Baptist Church. Following retirement she was involved with the Lake Lure Lioness Club and volunteered with the Hickory Nut Gorge Visitors Center and the Rutherford County Public Schools. Polly also served on the General Board for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina in the 1980s.
She is survived by a daughter, Gaylin Wylie Stewart of Lexington, NC and a son, Jeffrey Wylie of Paducah, KY; six grandchildren; a sister, Fran Ensley; and two brothers, Charles Rollins and Don Rollins. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Thomas Wylie, her parents H.T. and Cora Rollins, and 4 brothers and sisters.
Services will be conducted at Chimney Rock Baptist Church in Lake Lure on Monday, September 25 at 1 pm with Pastor Gene Daggerhart officiating. The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Sandy Run Baptist Church cemetery in Mooresboro at about 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Gardner-Webb University Christian Service Foundation, P.O.
