SHELBY- Mrs. Lucille Bridges Gibson, 95 of Shelby, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Century Care of Shelby.

FUNERAL: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2006 at New Hope Baptist Church in Earl.

LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

BURIAL: New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery

VISITATION: From 6:00 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Leonard, 2416 S. Post Rd., Shelby.

PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mayme Harris Bridges of Shelby. She graduated from Shelby High School and attended Appalachian State College in Boone, and was a former teacher in the Cleveland County School System. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Earl, where she taught in many ministries of the church for more than 65 years, serving as Sunday School teacher for the Winsome Sunday School Class for 18 years.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L. Hartness Gibson, a brother, Clyde Bridges, and three sisters, Maggie Lee Putnam, Ida Mae Moss, and Kathryn Lincoln.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Gibson Blanton of Lexington, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Jeanette Gibson of Shelby and John and Lynn Gibson of Clayton; six grandchildren; Jimmy Gibson and wife, Sherry of Shelby, David Gibson and wife Windy of Cherryville, Matt Gibson and wife Sabrina of Shelby, Stacy Wheeler and husband David of Garner, and Emily Gibson and Bradley Gibson, both of Clayton; three great grandchildren, Jeremy Gibson of Shelby, Kirstin Gibson of Stanley and Landon Wheeler of Garner; one brother, Roy Bridges of Shelby; and one sister-in-law, Gladys Bridges of Candler.
