SHELBY- Kimberly Dawn Durden, a beautiful soul born on March 1, 1973, in Gaston County, peacefully departed this world on August 19, 2026, at the age of 53. She was at home, embraced by the love and warmth of her family, as she always had been.
Kimberly was a selfless and compassionate woman who dedicated her life to nurturing those around her. Her heart was as expansive as the mountains she loved to visit, finding solace and inspiration among their peaks. As a founder of Durden's Dachshunds, she poured her time and energy into breeding and raising dachshunds, creatures that mirrored her joyful and spirited nature.A true sneaker fanatic, Kimberly delighted in shopping for the latest styles, her vibrant collection reflecting her lively personality.
Above all, Kimberly cherished her role as a wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was the devoted wife of Gene Durden, with whom she shared 38 wonderful years. Together, they raised two loving daughters, Amber Oliver and her husband Patrick, and Emily Durden. Her sisters, Beverly Howard and her husband Bob, Brenda Shelton, and Darlene Sires and her husband William, were her lifelong companions and confidantes.
Kimberly's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Christopher, Kaelyn, and Preslee Oliver, and Noah and Alayah Martinez. They were the light of her life, bringing endless happiness to her days.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frank and Donna Lemons, Kimberly carried forward their legacy of love and care throughout her life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kimberly's life at a memorial service to be held at 7 PM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor David Mellon. A gathering of friends and family will take place one hour prior to the service, where stories and fond memories of Kimberly will be shared in her honor.
In our hearts, Kimberly will forever remain a beacon of love, strength, and grace. She taught us the true meaning of selflessness and caring, lessons we will carry with us and pass on to future generations. Her memory will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we remember, and the love we continue to spread in her honor.
