SHELBY: Kathy Elaine Blackburn, 73, died Sunday March 3, 2024 at Monroe Rehabilitation in Monroe. Born in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Abernathy Scoggins. Kathy was a woman of faith, attended Community Baptist Church, and was an excellent mother who loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed going to the beach and Maggie Valley, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Randy Abernathy and Mick Abernathy. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Elmore of Shelby; son, Jason Angel of Lincolnton; daughters, Gloria Angel Williamson and husband Robb of Cherryville and Lori Angel Hamrick and husband Bryan of Shelby; sisters, Amy Abernathy of Cherryville; brothers, Jeff Scoggins and wife Bobbie Jo of Matthews and Tim Abernathy of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Stephanie Hamrick and Mason Pennell and fiancée Allie Desantiago; great-grandchild, Ada Pennell; and special friends, Rhonda Skipper of Matthews and Brenda Estep of Shelby. A gathering of remembrance will be held 2:00PM to 4:00PM Friday, March 8, 2024 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
