Kathryn Queen Martin

SHELBY-Kathryn “Kat” Queen Martin of Shelby died peacefully surrounded by her family February 29, 2012 at Hospice of Cleveland County.
She was born on January 14, 1923 in Cleveland County to the late Benjamin Cathy and Ollie Barnette Queen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd, Archie, Raymond, and B.C. Queen.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of 65 years George F. Martin, three sons, Dennis and wife Diane of Lenoir, Marcus and wife Suzi of Lattimore, Roger and wife Susan of Shelby. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Matthew Martin and wife Christie, and Jennifer Martin of Shelby, Ben and Katy Martin of California, Jessica Wilson and husband Andy of Sawmills; two great-granddaughters, Stella and Jasmine Martin; sister, Myrtle Bland; sister-in-law, Louise Martin; and special adopted couple, Carroll and Glennett Bridges.
She was a charter member of Westview Baptist Church where she was a prayer warrior and ministered to the sick and shut-ins until her health declined.
She loved God, her family, and friends. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading her Bible, visiting with family and friends, traveling with her husband, gardening, and cooking.
Memorial Service: Westview Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012.
Visitation: The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Roger and Susan Martin.
Pastor: Reverend Charles Reed
Funeral Home: Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is serving the family.
