SHELBY- Karen Marie Rung, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, embarked on her eternal journey on July 29, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on May 14, 1967, in the sunny expanse of California, Karen discovered her true home and heart in Shelby, North Carolina, where she cultivated a life rich in love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

Karen possessed a rare and radiant spirit. She was a woman who truly never met a stranger, her kind heart and welcoming smile instantly making everyone feel seen, valued, and at ease. Her genuine compassion and caring nature extended to all, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Among her many joys, Karen held a special affection for horses, finding peace and connection in their majestic presence.

In recent years, Karen embraced her faith with profound conviction, finding immense comfort and spiritual strength in her deepening relationship with God. Her baptism marked a significant turning point, guiding her path and reinforcing the boundless love and grace she extended to the world around her. This unwavering faith became a cornerstone of her life, illuminating her journey and inspiring those who knew her.

Karen's life was also touched by profound loss. She was preceded in death by her cherished grandson, Dylan Bryce O’Der; her dear sister, Julie; and her Aunt Barbara. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Her memory will be eternally cherished and honored by her loving family: her son, Brandon O’Der, and his wife, Heather O’Der; her son, Kevin Rung; her daughter, Ashley O’Der; her adored grandchildren, Kyler Wilson, Devin O’Der, Brandon O’Der Jr., Allison O’Der, and Jason Connor. She is also survived by her sister, Dora; her brother, Chuck; and her beloved mother, Patty, who, at 82 years young, will forever carry Karen's light in her heart. Beyond her immediate family, Karen leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

Karen’s boundless love, unwavering compassion, and steadfast faith created an enduring legacy that will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit of kindness and devotion will forever be a guiding light.

Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in a heartfelt Celebration of Life for Karen on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. This informal gathering, held from 12 noon to 3 pm, will be an opportunity to share cherished memories, offer comfort, and honor the beautiful life she lived.
