January 25, 1947 — July 14, 2025

Shelby

SHELBY: James Howard Crotts, entered into his eternal rest surrounded by his family on July 14, 2025, in Shelby, North Carolina, at the age of 78. Born on January 25, 1947, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, James lived a life full of warmth and kindness, touching the hearts of all who knew him.

James was a man of dedication and hard work, retiring after more than 35 years of service at PPG Fiberglass as a loom fixer. Even in retirement, his passion for working led him to work with CVI Transport, where he thoroughly enjoyed his time behind the wheel.

A man of simple pleasures, James had a deep affection for caring for his beloved cats and chickens. His laid-back and easy-going nature made him a cherished friend and companion, known for his constant whistling that brought joy to those around him.

James was a devoted member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, where he nurtured his faith and strengthened his community ties. His presence will be dearly missed by all who worshipped alongside him.

Preceded in death by his loving parents, Fred Crotts and Lucy Hoyle Crotts, and his devoted wife, Linda Crotts, James leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his sons, James Michael Crotts and wife Wendy, Scott Crotts and wife Julie, Scott Trammel and wife Tammy, and David Trammel and wife Dana. He also leaves behind his brother, Joe Crotts, along with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory.

A memorial service to celebrate James's life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with Randy Bumgardner and Robert Mote officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

James will be remembered as a gentle soul whose whistle carried the tune of a life well-lived. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before him, and forever held in the hearts of those who loved him. To honor James gentle and kind nature memorials can be made to Hospice  Cleveland County Foundation.
