SHELBY- Mr. Jack Edward Mode, 70, of 106 Mode Court, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Edgar Hoyt and Zelma Grace Sailers Mode. Also known as “Vagabond”, he was employed with Carolina Freight for 28 years and retired from Roadway Trucking. Mr. Mode served in the 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment Company L of the U.S. Army, also serving in Korea. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather who loved his church.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Mark Mode, a brother, Boyce Mode, and two grandchildren, Tracy Brian Mode and Julius David Mullinax.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ann Cooke Mode of the home; three sons, Jeff Mode and wife, Shelia, of Lawndale, Greg Ramsey and wife, Brenda, of Ellenboro and Tracy Mode and wife, Kristina, of Morganton; four daughters, Tina Hull and husband, Doug, Amy Lee and husband James, Jennifer Mode and Faith Mode, all of Shelby; two sisters, Hazel Ayers and husband, Bobby of Ellenboro and Donnis White of Shelby; a brother, Bob Mode of Ellenboro; six grandsons, Matt Mode, Nathan Hull, Josh Mathis, Jonathan Mode, Houston Mullinax, and Jacob Mode; seven granddaughters, Nicole Hull, Paris Ramsey, Amy Boone, Brooke Ramsey, Kathy Leigh Mode, Holly Mode, and Bryson Lee; five great-grandchildren, Marissa Hull, Taylor Hull, Alaia McDowell, Madison Mathis and Edwin Mode; a special uncle, Hoyle Mode; a special friend, Richard Bowman; and his beloved poodle, Midget.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church.
BURIAL: 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2007 at Cleveland Memorial Park.
