SHELBY- Mr. Homer Rome Lowery, 75, of 615 Plato Lee Road, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Spartanburg County, SC, eldest son to the late David Franklin and Flowie Roberta McKelvey Lowery, and was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a former truck driver and was a retired heating and air conditioning technician. Mr. Lowery was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Bill Bridges Sunday School Class. He enjoyed all sorts of stock car racing, especially NASCAR and was a flagman in Go Kart track racing. He also enjoyed wrestling.

PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hobert, Hubert, and Douglas Lowery; and four sisters, Dovie Grant, Omogene Smith, Lucille Lowery, and Virginia Lowery.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Joanne Marler Lowery of the home; four sons, Stan Lowery and his wife Julie , Tim Lowery and his wife Ann, Glen Melton and his wife Denise, and Jim Melton, all of Shelby; one daughter, Judy L. Self and her husband Gary of Shelby; three brothers, Jimmy Lowery and his wife Geneva of Ellenboro, David A. Lowery of Shelby, and Charles Lowery and his wife Linda of Morganton; four sisters, Gertrude Smith of Gaffney, Daisy Elliott and her husband Francis, also of Gaffney, Juanita Merritt of Salisbury, and Pauline Turner and her husband Roger of Lawndale; 13 grandchildren, Janice Westphelen, Kristy Rikard, Faith Newton, Heather Melton, Meagan Melton, Kelly Melton, Casey Melton, Jennifer McSwain, Jessica Fowler, Douglas Lowery, Catherine Lowery, T.J. Lowery, and Haley Lowery; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter, Page Self; and many, many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: Saturday (4/12), from 1-2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church.

FUNERAL: 2:00 pm, Saturday (4/12), at Calvary Baptist Church

LIE-IN-STATE: Mr. Lowery will lie-in-state during the visitation.

BURIAL: Burial will follow the funeral service in Sunset Cemetery.

OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Dan Wallace and Rev. Mike Wood.
