Shelby - Herbert Boyd Switzer, beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 31, 2025, in Gastonia, North Carolina, at the age of 83. Born on January 8, 1942, in Batavia, New York, to the late Floyd Cecil Switzer and Lula Belle Boyd Switzer, Herb lived a life filled with love, passion, and an unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Herb was a member of New Salem Church of Shelby. He worked for many years at an auto dealership and as a wrecker driver. He later retired from Reliance Electric as a machinist. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his daughters. He also enjoyed fixing and tinkering with things. He supported and encouraged his daughters through every endeavor, including his daughter’s work at Creekside Wildlife Rescue. He embodied the spirit of a true family man and was a wonderful father and husband. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Pamela, particularly attending dances at the Senior Center.
Herb was a proud Mason and Shriner, as well as ham radio enthusiast, being a founding member of CCARS. He served as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America, and his time in the Army during the Korean War stood as a testament to his commitment to serving others.
Herb was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-four years, Betty Jean Trammel Switzer; his brothers, Terry Switzer and James Quant; and his beloved fur baby, Sammie. He is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Pamela Allison Switzer; his two devoted daughters, Connie Switzer and Terry Lane; his adored fur baby, Chi-Chi; and his extended family in New York.
Herb leaves behind a lifetime of fond memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the stories shared and the love he gave so freely.
