GASTOINA - Erika Mattucci, born on May 16, 1926, in Iłów, Poland, peacefully passed away on December 23, 2025, in Gastonia, NC, at the age of 99. Erika lived a life full of grace and compassion, always serving others with a warm heart and a kind spirit.
Throughout her remarkable journey, Erika demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her community and family. Her career as a bus driver was only the beginning of her lifelong dedication to helping others. With a natural inclination to serve, she transitioned into a fulfilling role as a licensed practical nurse, where she cared for countless individuals with empathy and professionalism.
Erika's service extended beyond her professional life. She was a passionate volunteer, transcribing braille to aid the blind, providing them with the gift of words and stories. At the same time, she lovingly raised her children, embodying strength and resilience.
A woman of many interests, Erika found joy in capturing moments through photography, preserving memories with every click of her camera. As a Girl Scout leader, she inspired young girls to grow into confident and empowered women, guiding them with patience and encouragement. Her active involvement in her church community included teaching Sunday school, where she instilled values of kindness and faith in future generations.
When she moved to Charlotte NC in 1982, she helped raise her two grandchildren and supported her daughter in business, besides keeping the household in shape.
Preceded in death by her parents, Michal and Olga Rehlau, and her beloved husband, Erika leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and many others who cherished her dearly. Their lives are forever enriched by her presence and the lessons she imparted.
A memorial service will be held at A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, Charlotte on January 4, 2026 at 12:00PM with a reception to follow.
Erika Mattucci's life was a testament to the power of service, love, and faith. Her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her, reminding us of the impact one compassionate individual can have on the world.
