SHELBY- Mrs. Edna Ellis, 93, of 2146 Ellis Road, died Tuesday, March 9, 2009 at Century Care of Shelby. A Native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Dora Allen Ellis. She was a former Sunday School Teacher for Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she was a member. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, cutting grass, and most of all she loved her family.
PRECEDED IN DEATH:. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, James “J.C.” Charles Ellis; granddaughter Terry Heath Wooten; three sons-in-law, Kenneth Heath Sr., John J. Wade III, William S. Champion Sr.; a daughter-in-law Lana Turner Ellis; four brothers, Hugh, J.C., Clyde, Marcus Ellis; and four sisters, Lorena Peterson, Laura and Ethel Mayes, and Josie Ellis.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by her three sons James Ray Ellis, Roger Dean Ellis and wife Claudia, and Richard “Ricky” Ellis and wife Ginger, all of Shelby; three daughters Laura Lee Champion of Shelby, Marie Heath of Harmony, and Ruth Wade of Mooresboro; thirteen grandchildren Bill and Donald Champion of Raleigh, Kenneth Heath of Wife Althea of Harmony, Scott Heath and wife Phoebe of Troutman, Robbie Wade of Rock Hill, SC, Kim Matheney and husband David of Mooresboro, Jeff Ellis and wife Melanie of Shelby, Chris Ellis of Shelby, Christian and Caleb Ellis of Gaffney, SC, Cindy Lyman and husband Jerry of Mooresville, Misty Crocker and husband Aurness, and Dustin Ellis and Wife Ashlyne all of Shelby; 19 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 1:30-3 and other times at the home.
SERVICE: The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 3:00 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
INTERMENT: Burial will immediately follow in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery.
CLERGY: Rev. Tim Trexler will be officiating.
