SHELBY- Dennis Wayne Morrison, born on November 5, 1942, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on September 3, 2026. At the age of 83, Dennis left this world a better place because of the quiet strength and kindness he shared throughout his life.
Dennis was a good man—kind, quiet, loyal, and hard-working. Known for his willingness to help anyone in need, he touched the lives of all who knew him with his gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
His love for life was evident in his many passions. He loved Society of Stranders in North Myrtle Beach, Dennis cherished the shag dance and the vibrant beach community. The sands and surf were his haven, where he found peace and joy. NASCAR races brought excitement to his life, with Bobby Allison as his all-time favorite driver. When not cheering on his sports teams from his living room, he found solace in the simple pleasure of cutting the grass, relishing the tranquility of being outdoors.
In his younger years, Dennis's adventurous spirit led him to camp and water ski with his family. These cherished moments created a tapestry of memories that his loved ones will hold close forever. Above all, Dennis valued spending time with his family, who were his pride and joy.
Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved parents, L.T. and Gussie Morrison. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Cynthia Morrison; his loving daughter, Donna Merkel; and his cherished sister, Annette Tessiner. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Andrea Winfree and husband Josh, and Morgan Abraham, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Archer, and Aaron. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Sandra Hardymon and husband Ronnie, and brother-in-law, Richard Wright and wife Theresa, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Dennis's life will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Clay-Barnette, with Pastor Terry Floyd officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dennis's gentle presence and unwavering kindness will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him.Thank you to family and friends, neighbors and hospice for all your help in Dennis’s final days.
