GAFFNEY- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Richard Rice, affectionately known to all as "Ricky," who departed this life on February 10, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on January 23, 1955, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, Ricky spent his final moments surrounded by the warmth and love of his family in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Ricky was a man whose heart was bigger than Texas, a generous soul who never met a stranger. His humor and infectious laughter could light up any room, filling it with joy and warmth. Known as a jokester and a "super guy," Ricky's zest for life was evident in everything he did, from his passion for grilling to his delight in spending time with loved ones.
A true lover of the outdoors, Ricky found peace and exhilaration riding side by side, fishing in tranquil waters, and witnessing the thrill of racecars from the dirt track to the drag strip. Yet, above all else, it was his family that he cherished most dearly, always surrounding them with his boundless love and care.
Ricky is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frank and Sue Rice, his sister Rachel Leach, his brother Eddie Rice, and his grandson Derrick Henson. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his surviving daughters: Stephanie Hogston and her husband Chris, Victoria Leskanic and her husband Jeremy, Brittany Rice, and Misty Wright and husband Rob. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Conner, Grant, Bailee, Landon, Hannah, Cheyanne, Tristan, Alexis, Gavin, Allysa, Khole, Madison, Christian, Arriyanna, and Ayden.
He is also survived by his devoted fiancé Regina Stroup and her children, Travis and Taylor Stroup, as well as his loving sisters Frances Peterson and Eva Mullinax and her husband Steve. Numerous nieces and nephews will remember him as a caring uncle who always had time to share a story or a laugh.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ricky's life at a funeral service to be held at 2:00PM Friday, February 13, 2026, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Preacher Ronald Roberts will officiate the service. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial to follow at New Buffalo Baptist Church.
Ricky's departure leaves an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
