David Buchanan, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Shelby, NC, at the age of 77. Born on September 17, 1948, in Banner Elk, NC, David lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication to his family and passions.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, David served his country with honor and courage. After his service, he embarked on a career as a Senior Building Inspector in Mt. View, CA, where he brought integrity and expertise to his work until his retirement.
David found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid bass fisherman, often spending serene mornings by the water, casting his line with patience and skill. A true enthusiast of the open road, he loved riding his motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the wind against his face. His passion for the Seattle Seahawks was unwavering, and he cheered for them with fervor every season.
Above all, David cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to Heather, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. As a father, he was a guiding light to his sons, Steve, Cory (with wife Brooke), Jay (with wife Donja), and Bret. His legacy continues through his three cherished grandchildren, Damion, Tyler, and Ian, who brought immense joy to his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester "Buck" Buchanan and Texas Buchanan, his son Danny, his daughter TY, and his brother Kenny. He is survived by his loving wife, Heather, his sons and their families, and his brother Dennis, who all hold his memory dear.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate David's life on Saturday, April 18th, with visitation from 2 pm until 3 pm at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. As we remember David, let us be inspired by his adventurous spirit, his dedication to family, and his unwavering love for life. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
