SHELBY- It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Cynthia Jones Mullinax, who departed this world on February 6, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on December 15, 1953, in Cleveland County, NC, Cindy's life was a rich tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished moments spent with family and friends.
In her healthier years, Cindy embraced life's simple pleasures. She was an avid thrifter, always in search of hidden treasures, and found joy in the lively camaraderie of bingo nights. The thrill of the casino was another passion, where she enjoyed the excitement and company of those around her. Yet, perhaps her most beloved pastime was fishing off the pier at the beach, feeling the sea breeze and the gentle pull of the waves.
Cindy's faith was an integral part of her life, as evidenced by her attendance at Double Shoals Baptist Church. Her spiritual community brought her peace and strength throughout her journey.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James A. Jones Sr. and Ruby T. Jones Warlick, stepmother Elizabeth Jones, sister and brother-in-law Beverly & Carl Watts, brother James A. Jones Jr., and her cherished dogs Bo-Bo, Jake, Ollie, and Oscar, who no doubt greeted her with wagging tails at Heaven’s door.
Cindy is survived by her loving daughter, Cindy Howell, and husband Christopher, along with her adored grandchildren, Wilder and Phoenix Howell, all residing in London, England. Her brother Jamie C. Jones and wife Margaret of Cherryville also mourn her passing, as do a host of nieces and nephews. Her circle of love extended to her beloved friends—Joyce, Gail, Pam, Paul, Johnanna, Marnie, and several others—who provided unwavering support and care in her final years.
Per Cindy's wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. Instead, a private gathering of her friends will take place on the pier at the beach, celebrating her life in a setting she truly loved.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Meg, NP, and the compassionate nurses and staff members at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. Their tireless dedication and care during Cindy's last week of life were nothing short of angelic, and the family could not have navigated this difficult time without their kindness and support.
Cindy's legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and an unyielding spirit. Though she is no longer with us, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on in our hearts forever.
