SHELBY- Catherine Davis Gibson, affectionately known as Mama and Grammy to her beloved family, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, in Shelby, NC. Born on July 20, 1945, in Cleveland County, Catherine graced this world for 81 vibrant years filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.

A lifelong member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, Catherine embodied the essence of a true Southern lady with a bit of sass and spunk that kept everyone on their toes. A hairdresser by trade, she had a magical way of making people feel beautiful, not just on the outside but within. Her chair was not merely a place for styling—it was a sanctuary where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and friendships blossomed.

If you knew Catherine, you knew her love for coffee and a fresh slice of bread which fueled her days in the garden and canning tomatoes. Alongside her favorite people, Catherine loved to shop for new clothes, sing to the radio, and boat on the lake. Christmas was her favorite holiday, a time when her home shined with lights, joy, and the delightful chaos of family gatherings. She cherished creating memories that would be adored for generations, such as the annual peas and collards lunch for New Year's Day to make sure your pockets were full for the upcoming year.

Preceded in death by her parents, Hershal Davis Sr. and Carrie Falls Davis; her devoted husband, Ray "Rick" Gibson Jr.; her son, Sgt. Eric Gibson; her sisters, Aileen Doty and Donnie Morehead; and her brothers, Hershal "JR" Davis Jr., Chester Davis, and Buddy Davis, Catherine leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience.

She is survived by her daughter, Brandy Shade, and her husband Curtis; her sister, Shirley Williams; her brother, Roger Davis, and his wife Jackie; her cherished grandchildren, Dr. Hannah Brooks and her husband Ben, Ericah Beason-Williams and her husband Andrew, Luke Beason, Conner Gibson, and Corey Gibson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were touched by her loving and caring spirit.

A celebration of Catherine's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church. Pastor Priscilla Walker and Pastor Kathy Houser will officiate the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In remembering Catherine, we celebrate a life filled with humor, love, and an unwavering zest for life. She taught us that laughter is the best medicine, that love knows no bounds, and that even the simplest of gestures can leave a mark on the hearts of those we hold dear. Catherine Davis Gibson will forever be remembered as a sassy, spitfire soul whose legacy continues to inspire all who knew her.
