Carl Watts

SHELBY-Carl David Watts, 90, died Sat., July 5, 2014, at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Zim and Nora Brady Watts. Carl was a veteran of the Army serving in WWII with the 389th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, in the Philippines. He was honored to serve his country. He retired as supervisor from Rhyne Mills in Lincolnton with over 30 years of service, and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Shelby. Carl enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty of his efforts with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling to the coast with his family. He was a loving son, father, husband, brother, and friend to all who knew him.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly J. Watts; step-daughter, Sherri Blanton; brother, Z.W. Watts, four half-brothers, Earl, Arland, Lee, and Paul Sisk; sisters, Irene Warlick and Earline Hughes.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his son, Michael Watts and wife Elaine of Gaffney; daughter, Kathy Stanley and husband Buddy of Shelby; sister, Blondzine Torzillo of Shelby; sister-in-law, Cindy Millinax of Raleigh, grandson, David Watts and wife Deana; great-grandchildren, Krislyn and Michael Watts; step-grandchildren, Brandy and Cody Blanton; great- great-granddaughter, Mallory Watts; special nephew, Greg Torzillo, and several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses of Hospice of Cleveland County; and to their father’s caregivers, Ann Duncan, Patty Stroud, Ginny Black, Shay Taylor, and Robbie Mobley.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 11a.m., Tuesday, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel

VISITATION: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Sunset Cemetery with military honors
