Brenda Faye Howard

Shelby Brenda Faye Morrison Howard passed away on Thursday, February 5th while in the care of the Wendover Hospice House of Shelby. She was predeceased by her soulmate and husband, Yates Edward "Eddie" Howard, her parents Obie Edgar Morrison and Beatrice Ray Holland Morrison, as well as her sister Rebecca "Becky" Hampton.

Brenda is survived by her daughter Kelly Short of Grover (husband Duane), and her granddaughters Novella Short (significant other Brandon McDowell) and Georgia Short. She is also survived by her shared community cat, Scooby and will be missed by many, including long time friends and family.

Brenda always said she was born dancing. She grew up using doorknobs as dancing partners until she was old enough to find a community who loved dancing and friendships as much as she did. She and Eddie often attended Carolina Shag dancing "SOS" weekends at North Myrtle Beach, and founded many lifelong friendships that were cherished as family by them both.

Brenda had a special gift in her love for children. She spent decades as first a substitute teacher and later as a teachers assistant at Grover Elementary School, where the kids had as much of a lasting impact on her as she did on them. She always had a hug for any child in need.

She loved with all her heart. She and Eddie both adored their grandchildren and were always their biggest cheerleaders and supporters, from preschool recitals to college accomplishments. She and Eddie loved each other so strongly, anyone who knew them could see it immediately. She loved her friends, many of whom have fond memories of some of her favorite phrases (Heavenly days!)

The family will receive friends at Clay Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby on Friday February 20th 2026 at 1:00pm There will also be a celebration of life ceremony after visitation February 20th 2026 at 2:00pm.following a short graveside service at Sunset Cemetery will follow. Brenda's wishes were to have Aquamation. Eddie's remains will be buried with Brenda during the graveside service. Soulmates are not meant to be apart for long.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wendover Hospice House or to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina.
