Betty Hastings

SHELBY-Betty McGinnis Hastings, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thurs., July 17, 2014, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Summey and Dare Ryan McGinnis. She served many years at the Shelby Mill, until it closed. She retired from Fiber and Artee Industries. She was a member of New Bethel Church of Shelby, where she was active in the Red Hats and Jolly Elders. She loved her church and church family very much.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ada Greene, Mae Jenkins, and Florene Beam; four brothers, Calvin, Ernest, John, and Lester McGinnis.

SURVIVED: She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Hal James Hastings Sr., of the home; son, Hal “Jimmy” Hastings Jr.; and daughter, Faye Gregory, both of Shelby; sisters, Bessie Bowman of Shelby, and Inez Cloninger of Lincolnton; brother, C.A. McGinnis and wife Joanne of Crouse; grandchildren, Scott Gregory, Cylee Hastings, Bobbie Jo Newton and husband Jason; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Solomon, and Rowdy Irvin, Taylor E. Newton; step-daughter, Cassie Young.

SERVICES: Saturday, 2pm, at New Bethel Church of Shelby

VISITATION: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church

BURIAL: Cleveland Memorial Park
