SHELBY- Bennett Roosevelt Vause, known to all as Ben, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, at the age of 79. Born on December 20, 1946, in Selma, North Carolina, Ben lived a life defined by kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith.

Ben was a simple man with the sweetest heart; he never said a mean word and was the kind of giving soul who would gladly give you the shirt off his back. His love for life was evident in his joyful spirit—he loved to pick on and tease those around him, telling his famously lame but funny jokes that always brought laughter to every room he entered.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Ben carried his service and dedication with honor throughout his life. He worked diligently at PPG Fiberglass until his retirement, earning the respect and admiration of coworkers and friends alike.

Faith was a cornerstone in Ben’s life. He was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church until his move to the coast, where his spirituality remained a guiding light. His greatest joy came from his family and the simple pleasures he cherished: King Mackerel fishing, spending time at Surf City pier—his favorite place on earth—and following NASCAR, especially rooting for his favorite driver, Kyle Busch.

Ben is preceded in death by his loving parents, Glenn Governor Vause Sr. and Pashie Allen Vause; his beloved wife, Beverly Vause; and his dear brothers and sisters.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his daughter Danell Scruggs and husband Tony; sons Brian Vause and wife Amber, and Timothy Vause; grandchildren Shawn Scruggs (Rhea), Jake Scruggs (Ava), Noah Scruggs (Caroline), Jayson Vause, Tyler Vause, John Tyler Carroll (Dottie), and Lilly Ball; and great-grandchildren Katherine and Ashlynn.

Family and friends are invited to honor Ben’s memory with a visitation on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at Selma Memorial Gardens.

Ben’s warmth, generosity, and laughter touched all who knew him. Though he has gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts—a truly simple, sweet, and giving man whose spirit will continue to inspire us all.
