CHERRYVILLE-Barbara Ann Carter, born on December 24, 1940, in Bristol, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Shelby, North Carolina, at the age of 85. Her journey through life was marked by a deep love for her family, her faith, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.

Barbara's life was a testament to the beauty of everyday moments. She found joy in the pages of a good book, often getting lost in the thrilling worlds created by her favorite author, Stephen King. As an avid Tennessee Volunteer, she embodied the spirit of her home state and wore her pride unabashedly. Her days were filled with lively shopping trips and evenings spent watching television, activities she cherished alongside those she loved.

Her heart was as expansive as her interests. She was affectionately known as the "keeper of the zoo," a testament to her love for animals, especially her beloved dogs. Her dear companion, Stroker, whom she lovingly called her "baby dog," held a special place in her heart.

A devout member of New Bethel Church of Shelby, Barbara's faith guided her throughout her life. She was a dedicated attendee of her Sunday School class and found great joy and companionship in outings with the Jolly Elders group. Her church family was as dear to her as her own, and she cherished every moment spent in fellowship and service.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Harry Eugene Massie and Blanche Una Smith Massie; her husband, Jack Lindsey Carter; her daughter, Michelle Denise Rispolli; and her brothers, Robert Massie and wife Cricket, and Charlie Massie.

She is survived by her loving son, Harry Carter, and his wife, Sondra "Trixie"; her cherished grandchildren, Patrick Carter and wife Holly, and their son Grayson Carter; Kenzie Wright and husband Jake, and their daughter Blakely Wright; Tyler Dalton; Shannon Debusk; Alexis Spendley and husband John; and Hannah Rosenbaum, along with several other great-grandchildren who brought light into her life.

Barbara also leaves behind her brother, Harry Massie, and wife Nancy; her sister-in-law, Gail Massie; and her many special friends, church family, and extended family who were touched by her kindness and warmth.

A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at New Bethel Church of Shelby, with Pastor Mark Patchett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Barbara Ann Carter's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to embrace life's simple pleasures and cherish the bonds of family and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you honor her memory instead by donating to her favorite charities.
