SHELBY- Mr. Alonzo Harrison Pruitt, Jr., 82, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at home. Al was a native of Hendersonville, NC and moved to Shelby in 1985 after retiring from the Kimberly Clark Corporation.
He proudly served his country during WWII. Upon returning home from service, he married Myrtle Greer and they have been married for 60 years. His commitment to work and family, along with his warm personality, drew individuals to him throughout his life. Al’s greatest joy was having fun with his family and being active in their lives. He was an active and devoted member of Balfour United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Harrison Pruitt, Sr. and Gladys Owens Pruitt, a sister, Betty Brown, and a brother, Harold Pruitt.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Greer Pruitt of the home; two daughters, Pamela Kay Pruitt of Shelby and Greer Pruitt Dalton and her husband, Mike Dalton of Shelby; two grandchildren, Michael Dalton of Charlotte and Laurie Dalton Hendrick and her husband, Eric Hendrick of Shelby; a great grandson, Blake Dalton Hendrick; two brothers, Norman Pruitt of Hendersonville and Gerald Pruitt of Saluda; and a sister, Sybil Laughter of Lexington.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the home of his daughter, Greer Dalton, 311 Tremont Place in Shelby.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: A private family memorial service will be held in Hendersonville.
BURIAL: Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
