SHELBY- Alfred Charles Matthews, born on September 18, 1943, in Camden County, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old.

Alfred spent his professional life as a dedicated machinist, working with equipment and honing his skills with precision and care. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his love for the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader, he found great joy in books, exploring countless worlds through the written word. His compassion extended beyond the pages, as he was a devoted animal lover who cherished every moment spent walking his beloved dog along the nature trail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Charles Matthews Sr. and Mildred Matthews, his beloved wife, Sandra Matthews, and his son-in-law, Mark Yates.

Alfred’s memory will be forever cherished by his daughters, Stephanie Stearns and her husband Ron Stearns, and Holly Yates. He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Reed Yates, Alex Yates, and Ryan Carr, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Though he has departed from this world, Alfred’s gentleness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
